How to travel by land from China to Vietnam ?

There are more and more people choose to travel by land between Vietnam and China as it seems to be quite easy because there are quite a lot of Vietnam - China border crossings. These borders are very crowded every time and known as ideal places for doing business.

There are three border crossings between China and Vietnam, namely Mong Cai (Vietnam)/ Dong Hung (China), Dong Dang/ Ping Xian, and Lao Cai/ Hekou.

All border crossings are in the Northeast of Vietnam. It is easy to get to Mong Cai from Quang Ninh province or Halong City while from Sapa, Lao Cai, tourists could find the fastest way to Kunning through Lao Cai/Hekou border gate. If departing from Lang Son and heading to China, you had better to get to Dong Dang/ Ping Xian border gate and conversely, coming from China through Dong Dang border gate, you certainly get to Hanoi easily thanks to a variety of buses or trains.

Even there is definitely a train from Nanning to Hanoi and it departs every Monday and Friday, you just need to buy ticket in Nanning in advance for  a better trip in case it is very crowded. This is also by far the cheapest way to travel from China to Vietnam.

If you are a Chinese citizen, you must be in possession of a Vietnam visa. As you travel by land, it is required to get a Vietnam visa in your hand before you leave China. You can apply for Vietnam visa at the Consulate of Vietnam :

Address: GuangXi Investment Building, Floor 3, 109 Minzu Dadao, NanNing, GuangXi Zhuang Auto Region 530000

Tel: +86-(0)-138-7710-0849

Getting Vietnam visa at Vietnam Embassy/ Consulate is quite time-consuming and costly especially not conveniently for those living far from Embassy/Consulate. However, if you take a plane to Vietnam, you have a better choice to get Vietnam visa, that is Vietnam visa on arrival. You just need to submit a Vietnamese visa application form online. You pay for service fee and get Vietnam visa approval letter via email. This will be enough for you to get on the plane and then get Vietnam visa stamped on your passport once you arrive in Vietnam.

Be careful with street vendors in Vietnam!

Were you ripped off by street vendors in Vietnam ? If yes, I am sure you felt so bad. This happens not only to foreigners but also to Vietnamese like me. I can tell you some of my bad experience. One time, I went to the Old Quarter to meet some of my Indian clients. We went out to Hang Dao street, the lady in the group asked me the name of some fruits that vendors mix and sell on the street. I guessed she wanted to try, so I asked the vendor for the price of Dracontomelon, she said 25,000 VND/ 100 gram. I said: Give me 200 gram. Quickly, she gave me a bag includes Dracontomelon and Mango and said it is 100,000 VND. I told her, I dont need to buy that much but she started to shout 100,000 VND. I didn't want to argue with her, so I paid and leave. Remind myself that I will never buy such things again the Old Quarter. Other times, when I go there, foreigners keep feeling curious about the mix fruits but I told them my experience, so I am not going to buy again. Another time, I...

Vietnam attracts worldwide travelers and tourists with various beauties: the ancient of Old Quarter in Hanoi capital, magnificent of Ha Long bay, the marvelous scene in developing Ho Chi Minh city. Vietnam is in the bucket list of any travel lover including Pakistani. However, getting Vietnam visa is still a biggest obstacle which prevents Pakistani travelers to Vietnam.   My Vietnam Visa Experience When I planned a visit to Vietnam last year in November, it was certainly a few months ahead of time planning. I tried to shop around within Pakistan, and the cheapest quote for Vietnam Visa I could get was Rs. 25000 ($240) which is definitely too much to spend only for visa. Then I bumped into a girl who posted a blog for Vietnam Visa for Pakistani passports.. I contacted her and when I looked at her facebook profile, it was amazing that we had some mutual friends, mostly travelers from my side.. means she was already helping out people from my side... I asked her to quote me for ...
